We are delighted to be hosting our annual Commodities Finance Seminar on Thursday 10 October 2024 at The Andaz, Liverpool Street, London.
The event will bring together major players in the sector and delve into the key developments impacting the market. The event is for lenders, borrowers, traders, investors and advisers who want to learn, network and help shape the LMA’s activities in this space to promote efficiency, liquidity and transparency.
What will be discussed?
The full agenda can be accessed via the agenda tab above, but topics discussed will include:
- Trends and opportunities in the market, including changing market dynamics and access to liquidity across the spectrum.
- Lessons learned from expert witness cases on how to transactions can be structured for success.
- How the commodities market is adapting to changes in the sustainability landscape, including increasing ESG regulation
- Whether technological advances are really changing the game and what more needs to be done.
- The role of insurance in commodities finance and how the market may be impacted by Basel IV.
Registration will open at 12.15 alongside a networking lunch, with the seminar starting at 13:15. With thanks to the LME, there is space for 15 delegates to take a tour of the LME Ring trading floor between 12:30 and 13:00 – anyone interested should contact Olivia.straker@lma.eu.com directly.
The seminar will end at 17.45 and will be followed by a drinks and networking reception open to all attendees.
This event is free of charge and for LMA members only (accessible to non-members on request and at the discretion of the LMA).
This event is in-person only. It will not be live-streamed, nor recorded so it will not be possible to attend remotely.

12:30 to 13:00: LME tour of the Ring trading floor
The LME are offering 15 attendees the opportunity to have a tour of its open-outcry trading floor, the Ring.
The LME tour is now fully booked.
This session will set the scene by taking us through the state of the commodities finance market, along with key structures and trends.
This session will deep dive into the trends in the market, as well as emerging opportunities. The session will consider access to liquidity across the market, ECA involvement in the sector, changing market dynamics, the ever-present spectre of fraud and sanctions and the impact of regulation.
This session draws on the expertise of expert witnesses. What lessons can we learn and apply from recent cases to ensure we set transactions up for success?
This session will look at how the commodities market is adapting to changes in the sustainability landscape, from the raft of regulation being imposed, the consequences for global supply chains and different commodities, the impact on the ESG-linked debt market and the path to transition.
This session will focus on the use of technology in the market, from digital borrowing base agents, traceability agents, the implementation of electronic trade documents and the importance of reliable and accurate data to the functioning of the ecosystem.
This session will look at the growth of CPRI, the use of the product in the market, how it has fared in challenging times, how insurers work with their clients (particularly in challenging markets), as well as the impact of Basel IV.
