The future of the loan market is in the hands of our young members. That’s why the LMA believes investing in their development is crucial to shaping the industry’s future. To bring this vision to life, we launched ‘FutureLend’, our first-ever conference dedicated to empowering the next generation of lenders, in May. Following its great success, we are excited to announce the second ‘FutureLend’ conference—this time taking place in November in Frankfurt.

“The FutureLend conference emphasised the importance of diversity of thought going into the loan industry. There is a wide range of roles requiring different skills and we have different ways to achieve success depending on who we are.”

“There was a very interesting session on personal branding that really stood out to me. I took detailed notes and started implementing them on my LinkedIn and focused on building my network. I’ve also managed to stay in touch with a few speakers and peers, which has been great for exchanging ideas and staying inspired.”

“I learned a good mix of things. The seminar on personal brand was practical and actionable...I also enjoyed meeting people from other sectors and hearing their experience and finding out what people do in infrastructure and leveraged finance in more detail.”

“It was nice meeting a group of like minded people from different banks and geographies and I have connected with them on LinkedIn. I think it is a great forum and I hope for it to live on. That was one of my key takeaways.”

“I learned from FutureLend that the future looks very promising - all the attendees had amazing communication skills and innovative thinking. The speakers were great and very approachable and they gave us insights on how to navigate challenges in a big organisation such as multitasking and dealing with hierarchies the first time we have faced them. I have reconnected with attendees at another event.”

“I thought FutureLend was the perfect example of professional development that the market needs. It was an opportunity to attend mentoring sessions and panel events. I am happy it is going to be an annual event. I have stayed in touch with people in roles I wouldn’t usually have contact with - you can meet people in the market you weren’t previously exposed to.”

“The industry is a closely connected one. The seniors I work with at my company and other companies started work around the same time 10 years ago. Everyone starts around the same level, so building relationships early on is very important. We had a follow-up informal drinks event after the event and realised that many of our senior managers were indeed well-connected. Clearly, networking is key and I look forward to continuing to do just that with both my peers and more senior experts."

Junior professionals (members with two to four years’ market experience) working at participating banks, institutional investors and technology providers are eligible to be nominated.

The event, which includes lunch and drinks, is free of charge.

Delegates do not need to work in the loan markets, however they should be interested in lending.

Delegates do not need to prepare for FutureLend since the conference will not be focused on technical knowledge.

We will be launching the FutureLend LinkedIn group prior to the event so that delegates can connect with their peers and speakers.

Given the limited number of spaces at FutureLend, delegates must attend for the full day. If a delegate needs to cancel, they must give as much warning as possible.

The LMA will be holding a FutureLend conference in Europe later in 2024.
